If you do get sunburn, here are some ways to ease the pain:

Apply a CoolCompress

Soak a washcloth in cool water and apply it directly tothe burned areas for several minutes. Do not apply ice or an ice pack tosunburned skin. Apply the compress multiple times throughout the day as neededto relieve discomfort.

You can also add a natural ingredient with soothingproperties such as potatoes (or the juice from potatoes), milk, baking soda, cornstarchor oatmeal to the compress water.

Take a Soak

Adding a few tablespoons of baking soda or oatmeal tocool bath water makes a sunburn-soothing remedy.  Keep soaking time to 15 to 20 minutes.  Avoid using soaps, which can irritate and dryout the skin. Also skip the washcloth, bath sponge, and loofah.  Air-dry your body and don't wipe the oatmeal orbaking soda off your skin.

Thank Tannins

Mint tea naturally cools and soothes. The tannic acid andtheobromine found in green tea also helps relieve pain and heal damaged skinwhen applied topically. Witch hazel also contains tannins that when applied todirectly to the skin, can help reduce swelling, repair damaged skin, and wardoff bacteria. Just wipe them on using a cotton ball and let air dry.

Moisturize

After a cool shower or bath, slather on a moisturizingcream or lotion to soothe the skin. Repeat frequently to make peeling andflaking less noticeable. Consider a product containing vitamin C and vitamin E:It might help limit skin damage. Youcan also use aloe, the thick, gel-like juice of the aloe vera plant, whichcan take the sting and redness out of a sunburn as Aloe Vera causes bloodvessels to constrict lessening the pain.

Hydrate

Any burn draws fluid to the skin surface and away fromthe rest of the body. So drink extra water, juice and sports drinks for acouple of days and watch for signs of dehydration including dry mouth, thirst, reduced urination, headache, dizziness and sleepiness.

Medicate

Take a dose of ibuprofen as soon as you see signs ofsunburn and keep it up for the next 48 hours. It cuts back on the swelling andredness that is going to occur. Acetaminophen will treat the pain, but does nothave the same anti-inflammatory effect.

Avoid the Itch Urge

Absolutely avoidthe urge to rid or exfoliate the skin in the suborned areas. No scrubbing, picking or peeling your skin or breaking blisters.

Assess the Damage

Most sunburns, even those that cause a few blisters, canbe treated at home. But if a blistering burn covers 20 percent  or more of the body seek medical attention, Anyonewith a sunburn who is suffering fevers and chills should also seek medicalhelp,
