    What is Magnesium Citrate?

    Magnesium citrate is among one of the most highly bioavailable magnesium chelates (others include aspirate, citrate/malate and glycinate), which support the metabolism and use of many other essential nutrients. Magnesium also plays a role in many enzymatic and physiological functions, including cardiac function, neuromuscular contractions and regulating the acid-alkaline balance within the body. Along with other minerals, magnesium is used by the body to restore itself to an alkaline state when it is undergoing periods of excess acidity. Acidity, or acidosis, can be caused by exposure to toxins or a poor diet (high in acidic foods).

    How the Body Uses Magnesium

    The body uses magnesium (and other minerals) to metabolize macronutrients, produce energy and to efficiently use phosphorous, calcium, sodium and potassium.     Where Does Magnesium Citrate Come From?

    Magnesium comes naturally from limestone. The citrate is made through corn dextrose fermentation. The other forms of bioavailable magnesium (aspartate, glycinate and malate) are synthetic. Ascorbyl palmitate comes from palm oil and corn dextrose fermentation.

    Magnesium Deficiency

    Since magnesium is abundantly found in leafy green vegetables, a true magnesium deficiency is rare. However, individuals who suffer from malabsorption disorders are advised to supplement in order to get adequate amounts of magnesium in their diet.
